Are Toddler Podcasts actually worth it?
I stubbornly decided not to listen to podcasts until last year, when I realised they can be a great way to slow down my brain and focus. I have a very busy brain that sometimes takes a moment to shut off, so a podcast helps me focus on someone else's voice and slow down. With that being said, I enjoy topics ranging from those I love (I listen to a lot of doula and midwife podcasts) to silly, funny podcasts that help me laugh, cry, and regulate (Am I an a**hole is my go-to for a rough day).
Podcasts have quite literally changed the way we listen and use our time. But have you ever explored toddler podcasts? And are they actually helpful or just a waste of time? Well, I listened to a whole load of children's podcasts so you don’t have to, and here's my outlook that may help you make a decision on if it's worth bringing them into your home.
You can expand on their interests.
There are a range of podcasts for all ages. So if you want traditional stories or to learn more about space and science, then podcasts can help introduce and broaden your little ones' minds in their favourite areas.
Takes away screen time
They are a great tool to reduce screen time. Great for a car ride where you need to switch off, but they need something to focus on that isn’t a screen as well, whether it's what they will eat or even just background noise.
Encourages speech
Having more voices and stories, as well as sounds in a toddler's daily life, helps broaden and encourage speech. This can be from story podcasts or podcasts that encourage questions. It also helps you as an adult to ask questions to your little one, as well as building a stronger bond.
Promotes creativity
There are some fun story podcasts out there that are written by kids for kids and explained by adults. They truly do help encourage little ones to explore, create, and imagine.
Supports family time
Having podcasts in the car can help the whole family have topics to chat about and discuss. As there are a range of different styles of podcasts, you can find anything from music-related shows to technology and science to stories about the world and imagination. You will definitely find one the whole family will enjoy.
There's a huge range to choose from.
Down below I have placed a few fun podcasts that you may quite enjoy for you and your family. Have fun and discover something new to listen to with the whole family.
All of these are found on the main streaming platforms.
